TRENDY treats? As if we need an excuse – Bassett’s Liquorice Allsorts’ call to mind the candy colours of our childhood favourites, with blocks of sweetie colours teamed with flat black in lots of autumn/winter 2010-11 collections. One key point, though: make sure the look is more Giambattista Valli and less Bertie Bassett.

Krizia and Giorgio Armani added a tangy edge to the runway with shades of lime and tangerine, while sugary tones sweetened things up at Sportmax – think lemon, mint and candy floss pink. Yves Saint Laurent styled block colours with black gloves while, at Miu Miu, orange and purple mini dresses reigned supreme. Such saccharine shades and short hemlines are a refreshing antidote to gloomy winter weather and, in these mini styles, are reminiscent of the sartorial rebellion of the Sixties.
If supersized colour portions are too much to get your teeth into, get a taste of the trend with the season’s sweet accessories – Betsey Johnson’s pink hats make for a jaunty look, while Charlotte Olympia’s banana-yellow Immodesty court shoe with red heel adds a feminine splash of colour. Miu Miu’s patent handbags continue the colourful theme – Ambra” is a particularly warm shade of pumpkin – and bright tights by Jonathan Aston are sure to tempt you with names such as Candy Pink and Daffodil Yellow.
However you wear the trend, have fun.
